Vitor Belfort, who recently won against Terry Martin, is out of the October 11 fight against Matt Lindland. Vitor was scheduled to meet "The Law" at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas for the next Affliction PPV but a double fracture in his hand will prevent him from returning, according to MMAWeekly Radio.
Tom Attencio, Affliction VP, had the following to say about Vitor's status with his promotion.“Vitor is out, I spoke with him I think yesterday and he told me. Actually, it was on Tuesday we had a conversation for about an hour or so, and yeah, I guess he broke his hand in two places is what he told me and he had been having 2, 3 and 4 opinions on it. He finally got the opinion that he wanted I guess and they told him to step out for a while.”
The injury to Belfort leaves Affliction scrambling for a suitable replacement for Matt. Rumors on the Internet place JJ phenom, Jake Shields as a possibility in the match. Jake's Father and manager Jack Shield hinted to MMAWeekly that the possibility of fighting somewhere other than EliteXC is a strong possiblity.
"Jake has been offered an opportunity to fight a top-five middleweight and he would love to do it,” said the elder Shields.
The move by Jake would be a huge blow to the EliteXC as he is the current 185lb. champion in that organization. With the affliction match so far away, he could conceivably defend his belt AND fight for the Affliction banner.
