The Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) organization today announced that the first UFC event in Canada UFC 83: SERRA vs. ST-PIERRE 2 taking place Saturday, April 19 live from Montreal's Bell Centre is sold out, and that the event ranks as the fastest UFC sellout in history.

"Most of the tickets for UFC 83 were sold in the first 24 hours of our UFC Fight Club presale, and the rest were gone within one minute of the public on-sale today," said Dana White.

After all but 500 tickets went in the pre-sale, Zuffa sent this email out to their newsletter holders. "Because of the unprecedented size of this presale, the normal UFC® Newsletter Presale will not take place. The scheduled public onsale date for this event is this Friday, February 8 at 12pm ET. On that date and time, a very limited number of tickets will be released for sale via Ticketmaster and at the Bell Centre Box Office."

Although the UFC is pleased with this development, some fans are disenfranchised with the way the tickets went in the pre-sale and that there were none held back for the newsletter or for the public. Essentially, to get tickets to this event, you had to pay an $80 premium and be available on the two days that they went online. Some fans even snarkingly wondered out loud if this was a Hannah Montana concert.

A quick search online reveals that there are nearly a 1000 tickets on stubhub that range from $269.00 to $6000.00+ and Stubhub isn't the only ticket resale outlet in the market.

Regardless of the grousing, the popularity of the UFC is at an all-time high which bodes well for MMA in general. Going mainstream is introducing some growing pains but as the demand goes, so will the supply. UFC 83 sales are a landmark event pointing to good times ahead for all of MMA.
