Another fight has been added to the UFC’s first event at Philips Arena in Atlanta, as Anderson Silva, fresh off his impressive first round KO of James Irvin last Saturday, will defend his middleweight championship against Patrick Côté, according to MMA Weekly.
The match-up leaves Yushin Okami as the odd man out. He last fought at UFC 82 in March as he knocked out a past-his-prime Evan Tanner. The Japanese middleweight broke his right hand in training, confirmed Dana White at UFC Fight Night 14’s post fight presser.
UFC 88 takes place Saturday, September 6th. Other match-ups scheduled for the event include Dan Henderson taking on Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares in a middleweight tilt; Rich Franklin and Matt Hamill at 205 lbs.; Karo “The Heat” Parisyan vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida at welterweight; and the main event which pits Rashad Evans against Chuck Liddell, with the winner rumored to be in line for a chance against Forrest Griffin down the road. |
