Brazilian website Tatame is reporting that 2005 PRIDE FC Middleweight Grand Prix Champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has verbally agreed to a fight this December against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
Tatame caught up to the younger Rua brother while undergoing therapy for a knee in which he had surgery following his last fight almost a year ago, when Forrest Griffin pulled off a third round submission victory against the then-consensus #1 light heavyweight.
”They [the UFC] said that I might fight with Quinton Jackson, but nothing has been signed yet. They called me and offered a fight with him and I accepted, but they didn’t say anything else.”
He also remarked on the current controversy surrounding Jackson. The delayed arraignment of his hit-and-run episode last month is only the latest chapter the troubled light heavyweight finds himself in.
”[Jackson’s troubles] can be a problem,” the Brazilian remarked, “but I want him back in December and against me, and I believe he can be back.” |
