We received news today from Mario Sperry that boxer and MMA fighter Edson Draggo was in a serious motorcycle accident in Rio de Janeiro.
”I received a link from Sul (unclear as to who he is) saying that he (Draggo) had been in a motorcycle accident. I called Thiago Silva, who was at his home at the time, and he had told me that he didn’t know what had happened to Draggo. He (Drago) had gone out on his motorcycle the previous night and did not return.
”I called the police and informed them of Draggo’s birth name (which is Edson Klas), and they had told me that hey presently have a person who was in a motorcycle accident and is now in an induced coma. We are currently on our way to the hospital to find out more,” said Sperry.
In a phone call placed with American Top Team fighter Thiago Silva, who is sharing an apartment with Draggo in Rio de Janeiro, he stated “He went out late last night and did not return. I tried to reach him many times, but I couldn’t. I went out to train with Brazilian Top Team, and when I returned, Draggo’s girlfriend and mother were in the apartment. They told me he had a serious motorcycle accident.
”It appears as if he had hit a tree, which caused him to strike it with his torso. The impact on his torso was severe enough to cause a lung to collapse. We don’t have further details because he is in an induced coma at Amparo Feminino Hospital, which is near the Rio Comprido area”, said Silva.
We (Tatame) contacted the hospital, who informed us that they could not release his health status without authorization from his family. We were told, however, that the accident was severe and that the athlete’s appearance remained intact. According to sources in the hospital, Draggo is not close to death.
Draggo was in Rio de Janeiro to train with BTT and Thiago Silva for his bout scheduled in July, where he was in advanced negotiations for a bout agreement.
