Parisyan, Franklin, and Henderson all Fight in Sept. For UFC |
|
The UFC recently announced three new fights for their Sept. 6th card, in Atlanta, Georgia. Rich Franklin will be fighting Matt Hammill; Karo Parisyan will be fighting Yoshiyuki Yoshida; and Dan Henderson will be fighting Rousimar Palhares. These were added on top of the main event, Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans.
The theme of this show looks to be the prototypical "Striker vs. Wrestler" style mismatch. Henderson, Hammill, and Evans all come from a wrestlers base and rely heavily upon that skill set to win their matches. Chuck, Rich, and Karo are seen more as strikers and prefer to KO their opponents rather than take them to the mats.
The one match so far that defies the aforementioned mold is the Karo - Yoshiyuki matchup where both can bang and prefer to stand on their feet when fighting. Yoshiyuki has 6 TKO's on his 10 and 2 record. Karo, although not a wrestler, does have a Judo background and has 9 submissions that came early in his MMA career, which means that the Judoka is not averse to taking the action to the mat if necessary.
Either way, UFC 88 is shaping up to be a nice card with plenty of star power and good matchups scheduled for the return of the UFC to Georgia. |
