EliteXC's CBS card "Unfinished Business" failed miserably at the gate with only 3,701 tickets sold, 2,871 tickets given away, and 2,023 tickets unused for a total Live gate of $268,715.
With fighter salaries of $533,501, the initial deficit for the show comes to $264,786. Of course the aforementioned figure doesn't include staff costs, production costs, and advertising costs which could drive the amount that EliteXC will have to pay to half a million dollars or more.
One of the biggest disappointments is the lack of draw power from Nick Diaz since this was promoted in his hometown, although it should be noted that Gary Shaw and his promotional experience was notably absent and could have been a bigger factor since local promotion is a learned skill set (radio ads, tv ads, ground teams, etc.) If the local crowd isn't duly notified, they can't be expected to show up for the event.
EliteXC returns to CBS airwaves on Oct. 4 live from the 20,000-seat BankAtlantic Center near Fort Lauderdale, Fla. |
