Edwin “Babyface” Dewees and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva have been fined $2,500 and issued a one-year suspended license by the California State Athletic Commission. The news comes within about one month of both fighters’ bouts in Affliction and EliteXC, respectively.
Dewees – who was a replacement for Vernon “Tiger” White, and who faced Antonio Rogerio Nogueira – tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone in both his “A” sample sent to Quest Diagnostics and his “B” sample screened at the Laboratoire de Controle du Dopage in Montreal, Canada, according to MMA Junkie.
Ironically, Vernon White was forced off the Affliction card because the Nevada State Athletic Commission issued him a suspension for testing positive for banned substances.
EliteXC Heavyweight Champion Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva was also caught with an anabolic steroid of his own – Boldenone.
Silva’s screening came after he defeated former UFC heavyweight fighter Justin Eilers via a second-round TKO to win the championship.
Like in Dewees’ case, both of Silva’s samples were screened by two different testing firms – Quest Diagnostics, and the Laboratoire de Controle du Dopage.
Unlike Dewees, however, Boldenone is a steroid most commonly associated with veterinary use.
Both Dewees and Silva have been reminded of their right to appeal before the CSAC. |
