Randy Couture was interviewed by Fox Sport’s Alex Marvez after Saturday’s smashing Affliction card. Interestingly enough, the UFC Heavyweight Champion expressed his anticipation of a Texas court’s decision regarding his contract with the UFC.
Couture suddenly tendered his resignation on October 11 last year following the UFC’s inability to sign Russian superstar and newly-crowned WAMMA Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko. This was the only fight Couture wanted. Since then, he has challenged the UFC’s position that Couture has two fights remaining on his contract. On the other hand, Couture claims that his contractual non-compete clause expires effective one year from his resignation date: October 11, 2008.
To further add to the tie-up in the Texas courts, HDNet’s Mark Cuban became involved when he and his lawyers south a declaratory status on Couture’s standing with the UFC.
Couture adds that he expects a final ruling on the matter to be delayed as the perceived loser in court will apparently file an appeal on the matter.
”It could happen in the UFC” Couture said of the dream fight against Emelianenko. “I want it to happen. Fedor wants it to happen. In some way, shape, or form, we’re going to make it happen.” |
