Alexandre Nogueira Test Positive for Boldenone |
|
The CSAC, through their rep Bill Douglas, announced that Alexandre “Pequeno” Nogueira has tested positive for the anabolic agent Boldenone. Alexandre last participated and lost to Jason Aldo on the WEC card June 1.
Bill Douglas further clarified that Alexandre's "A" sample was tested at Quest Diagnostics and his "B" sample was subsequently tested at Laboratoire de controle du dopage in Laval, Quebec, Canada (a WADA certified test facility) and both came back positive for the banned equine steroid.
The CSAC has suspended Nogueira from the conclusion of the bout on June 1, 2008 through May 31, 2009. His penalty also includes a $2,500 fine.
Boldenone is an anabolic steroid commonly used in veterinary medicine to treat horses and other livestock. It is illegal for competitive uses in most organized sport but has seen an up-tick in use among MMA fighters recently with the likes of Stephan Bonnar, Kit Cope, and Phil Baroni all testing positive for the substance. Why Boldenone has become popular among fighters is still unknown as it is notoriously hard to mask and the half-life is longer than other similar steroids, such as Deca.
